The first Sycamore Hall was built with money from Andrew Carnegie and Levi Strass. At the dedication on November 24, 1905 Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley was in attendance. Also in attendance that day was Govenor Frank Hanely and Judge William Babacock. Unfortunately, the grand literary hall burned to the ground on April 16, 1915.
